The Great Transformation: From Bar Culture To Hookups World.

If before we had to go to a bar to kiss someone, now for the price of two beers we can have the paid version of a dating app on our cell phone and meet interesting guys without leaving home.

It doesn’t mean things have gotten easier, but they are different. A transformation has occurred in recent years in the global gay community because of dating apps. To have sex is easier than never.

One of these days all we had was a gay bar to meet other men interested in meeting people, chatting, and ending the night in bed with someone. This idea seems as old as an iron or a pay phone, but the truth is that until recently it wasn’t possible to meet someone without leaving home. To give you an idea, two of the biggest dating apps for the LGBTQ+ public only emerged recently: Grindr in 2009 and Scruff in 2010. Before that, chats took place face-to-face.

I’ve always felt very comfortable in gay bars, with a sense of empowerment and belonging. Every time I travel, I look for the local gay community to feel welcomed. I remember the first time I went into a gay bar in Philly, in 2013. I had just moved and got to know the city’s gay life. I found several men sitting around a counter…
