It looks like a massive worker's contingency wakes up for the need for some balance between their professional and personal lives. More time to spend with their families and themselves is the main reason for 11 million American workers who decide to quit their jobs in 2021. Only in June, more than 4 million workers between the ages of 30 and 45 resigned from their careers in the United States, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It’s a social phenomenon named by experts as Great Resignation.

An article on Harvard Business Review this September 2021 shows the resignation rates are highest among mid-career employees, with an average increase of more than 20% between 2020 and 2021.

The same article shows while this enormous amount of mid-age workers are quitting their jobs, resignations actually decreased for workers in the 20 to 25 age range as well it fell for those in the 60 to 70 age group, compared to 2020 resignation numbers. A combination of financial uncertainty and reduced demand for entry-level workers sound be the reason for these groups to keep their current jobs.

The quarantine during the pandemic made people change the course of their own lives. Many workers want to keep the family time they achieve during the reclusion to protect themselves from the virus. With the end of the quarantine in most states in the USA, many decide that the best for them, their kids, and their families are to stay working from home, even if it requires finding a new job.

A study published on Inc.com shows that forty percent of the workforce in the computer and IT industries and twenty-four percent of those working in financial firms have already quit or had plans to leave their jobs by 2022.
